2014 Fly Fishing Film Tour - Blog - Presenting The Fly

You may have read the that we posted a few months ago, detailing a trip with the Beattie Productions film – Alaska: La Frontera Norte. You can now see the full feature with the 2014 Fly Fishing Film Tour touring around 140 cities across the U.S. and Canada. The teaser above is a little glimpse of the storyline, the fishing adventure, and the great people that went on this fantastic wilderness float with me.

The Shenandoah Valley lies just two hours outside of our nation's capital and offers some incredibly diverse freshwater fishing. It is hard to find mountain brook trout, spring creek rainbows and browns in such close proximity to some of the best smallmouth, carp, and musky fishing in the country. Twin brothers, Brian and Colby Trow, are natives of Virginia who took their love of fly fishing together and put it all on the line to 'live the dream' in the center of this unheralded fishing destination. More than 10 years and one nasty economic recession later, Brian and Colby understand the risks and costs of running a small business. Success comes with the price of long hours and being away from family, but it is time on the water together that keeps them connected. Selected for the 2014 Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T), the Rise Fly Fishing Film Tour (Europe), and the Rise Fly Fishing Tour (Australia/NZ). Blood Knot was also selected as the Best Film of the Year and Best Freshwater Film of the Year at the 2014 Drake Film Awards.

In 2012, the Scorpion Reef expedition took the fly fishing world by storm. A group of close friends -- anglers from a variety of backgrounds and locales, pooled their talents for an exploratory trip to a remote atoll in the Gulf of Mexico. The film festival version of this movie is available for rent or download at .

What they found was something truly amazing. The wildlife, the camaraderie, an untouched fishery and a wild adventure resulted in one of the most unique and unforgettable adventures of a lifetime. They realized something profound -- the deeper one travels into remote and untouched locations, the greater the drive to go even deeper the next time. The experience becomes addicting... there are always new limits to push, new edges to nudge.

Scorpion Reef would be a hard trip to beat.

In planning the next great adventure, the crew wanted to take crewmember Alejandro "Sandflea" Vega Cruz, a Mexican from Isla Holbox, out of his element and show him something life changing. The result was an expedition into the heart of the Alaskan bush. The crew revisited an unknown and largely untouched river system -- explored by RA Beattie and Alaska guide Mark Rutherford almost a decade earlier.

Their intention? To target sportfish primarily with topwater.
