SANTA ROSA, CALIF – MindShift Gear, an award-winning outdoor pack design firm, has launched on Kickstarter the first 3-in-1 fly fishing backpack, the rotation180° Catch & Release™. The rotation180° Catch & Release operates as a traditional backpack, but the lower part of the backpack easily rotates to the front for quick access to fishing essentials. For deep water wading, the rotating beltpack also converts to a chest-pack in seconds. All of this can be done without taking off the backpack or returning to shore.
I’m in the market for a backpack to where while guiding on bushwhacking/wade trips and the bitch creek looks worth checking out, for sure. But here is the question, can backpacks designed for fly fishing compete with backpacks designed for backpacking? Or rather, if you put the best fly fishing backpack up against the best backpacking backpack for fly fishing, which would win?
Fishpond Fly Fishing Backpacks
Don’t expect to be able to pack a ton of gear into this backpack, but using the “catch and release system” you should be able to haul anything you need into the wilds to hook fish. This fly fishing backpack is water repellent but you will not be able to submerge it in the river.
This great fly fishing backpack is extra special because it is compatible with some of the Orvis chest packs. They will strap directly to the shoulder straps on this pack. Thus will allow you to easily access some of the common items you will need such as terminal tackle and fly boxes, while keeping your less often used rain jacket, food etc. in the main backpack compartment. This backpack is also available in slate blue color if camo is not your style.
